Coca-Cola Prices

Coca-Cola is the world’s bestselling sparkling beverage – and that’s a fact! From Asia, Australia and Africa to North America, South America, and Europe, the red-and-white cursive Coke logo is recognizable and its refreshing taste addictive. We can safely say that nearly every person within 10 kilometers of a store of any size has drank the carbonated drink – and enjoyed it, too, no matter the season.

The name may sound nonsense, even sound like the illegal drug, but its provenance is understandable. The original drink developed by Dr. John Pemberton in 1886 contained two main ingredients – coca leaves and kola nuts, which was a caffeine source – and voila! Coca-Cola was born.

Today, the brand is among the most valuable and recognizable worldwide; only Apple and Google are in the same environment in terms of being valuable brands. Such is its popularity that it has become part of contemporary pop culture with numerous celebrity endorsements, literature references, and media appearances from movies to television shows.

Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Elton John, David Bowie, and Whitney Houston are among the celebrities that became part of Coca-Cola history – and it’s still being made to this day, too.

In 1886, Dr. John S. Pemberton created a carbonated soft drink made from mixing flavored syrup and carbonated water, which can then be sold at soda fountains in Atlanta, Georgia. When he had it sampled by customers, he received positive reviews for the drink, especially when he initially marketed it as a patent medicine.

While Dr. Pemberton created the carbonated drink, Frank M. Robinson, his partner and bookkeeper, is credited for the Coca-Cola name and its distinctive script. The script and name, by the way, are trademarked and thus protected under international copyright laws; these are still in use today, more than 130 years after their creation.

But such success didn’t come easily. When it was first sold, Coca-Cola was sold for five cents per glass and only nine glasses were sold, on average, in Atlanta during the first year of its release. But as word spread, the sales gradually increased. Today, as many as 1.9 billion daily servings of Coke are consumed worldwide – and that’s what makes it the #1 sparkling beverage globally, even with stiff competition from its closest rival.

By the way, Coca-Cola drinks are under license by the eponymous The Coca-Cola Company. Basically, the multinational corporation produces the concentrate used in the manufacture of its signature drink. The concentrate is sold to licensed bottlers around the world, with each bottler granted exclusive territory contracts. The bottlers produce the finished products, which are available in cans, glass bottles, and PET bottles, before distribution to supermarkets, restaurants, and groceries, among other venues.

The concentrate, furthermore, is combined with many other ingredients including sweeteners and filtered water. According to the company, the concentrate’s specific formulation is different from the original formula developed by Dr. Pemberton. But the refreshing feeling enjoyed after drinking ice-cold Coke still remains and that’s what’s most important for Coke fans around the world!

Coke Variations

Coca-Cola, the soft drink itself, is the heart of the Coca-Cola product line. This is best served ice-cold to bring out the refreshing and reenergizing quality that partly comes from the caffeine and carbonated water. Many people prefer to drink it straight from the can or bottle while most like it paired with their favorite food, such as pizza, burgers, or chips.

The Coke experience is different for each individual, as silly as it may sound. But most fans agree that the nearly addictive appeal lies in the way that the fizz tickles the nose when you first open it, the explosion of sweet freshness in your mouth, and the refreshing coldness when it travels down your throat. Many people even say that the beverage evokes the joys of childhood summers when ice-cold Coke after a hot day playing in the sun was a reward unto itself.

But Coca-Cola isn’t the only beverage marketed under the brand! If you scan the typical supermarket’s refrigerators and shelves, you will see several variations including but not limited to:

  • Diet Coke
  • Caffeine-Free Coca-Cola
  • Coca-Cola Cherry
  • Coca-Cola Zero
  • Coca-Cola Lemon
  • Coca-Cola Vanilla
  • Coca-Cola with Lime
  • Coca-Cola Raspberry
  • Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla
  • Coca-Cola Blāk
  • Coca-Cola Citra

Emphasis must also be made that not all of these variations are still available in the U.S. market and not all of them are even available in the country. Many are actually only available in selected countries, such as in Asia only or in Europe only.

Known Ingredients

According to the label of Coke cans, the ingredients include:

  • Carbonated water
  • Sugar
  • Caffeine
  • Phosphoric acid
  • Caramel color
  • Natural flavorings

The caffeine and sugar content varies between the above-mentioned versions. For example, a Coke original contains lower amounts of sugar than a Diet Coke. The differences in ingredients also affects the beverage’s overall taste although the distinctive Coke flavor is still present.
